The Benefits of Cloud Computing | For Small Businesses

Updated: Jan 24, 2023

Cloud computing is a remote computer resource or combination of resources that can be accessed on-demand over the internet. Instead of storing your company's email files or daily data backups on your own computer and servers, cloud services allow you to transfer these operations to physical servers at a cloud computing company's data centers. These physical servers function as standard computers or servers in your company but are managed and maintained by another company in a different location. They allow you to borrow the functions of an in-house server for a fee.

There are three main types of cloud infrastructure options,

  1. Platform as a service (PaaS): A full-service cloud computing approach that includes hardware, software, and infrastructure. Microsoft Azure and Google App Engine are two examples.

  2. Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): A combination of computational, storage, and networking resources. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Amazon Web Services are two examples.

  3. Software as a service (SaaS): You access this software online rather than downloading it and installing it on your computer. Trello and Adobe Creative Cloud are two examples.

You can get more understanding of these infrastructures in the blog Cloud Architecture.

The Benefits of Cloud Computing

If You are using Cloud Services or planning on using cloud services for a small business you will realize that there are so many advantages of cloud services.

Security of Data

Loss of data is a serious risk for businesses. Data loss can happen in many ways ranging from unintentional deletions to hostile attempts by strangers to steal information or keep it for ransom. For a small business, it is better to rely on a place secure than an in-house server for the security of data.

Although it may appear that keeping data offsite where it can be accessed remotely creates a greater danger, cloud providers are proficient in security features such as authentication, encryption, and permissions. You can control who has access to what data, and the provider can help you manage and secure it.

Reduction of Cost

One may feel like it is a disadvantage of cloud computing since one has to pay a monthly fee for the service. But if you consider the cost of a private server thoroughly, the price of the server, the room space for the server, and hiring the crew to maintain the server you can get an idea of what it will cost you.

Every piece of hardware, from cabling to a ventilation device, has a cost. Software, updates, and licensing fall into line. With cloud business solutions now covering the expensive costs of data storage and hosting, it may make more financial benefit to outsource this and save on what would otherwise be a large and continuous expense.

Efficiency

You'll have less to manage from an HR standpoint if you don't have to have additional IT staff on the payroll to maintain your servers. Training and development costs can also be avoided. You'll have fewer staff difficulties relating to server care as well as a more simplified approach to data.

Mobility

Cloud-based apps can maintain your offices connected to the communication platforms that you use to communicate with workers, clients, customer care, and suppliers. The freedom to obtain the right data from any location is an indication of an agile business.

The cloud-based server for small businesses has facilitated the development, testing, and deployment of applications and mobile solutions that keep your brand at the forefront of your customers' minds. Therefore, businesses can create and develop mobile solutions not just as a service to their employees but also to sell to their customers.

Scalability

If you need to expand your business sooner or later, for that purpose most commercial cloud service providers are readily available to expand the data and resource requirements. They are aware of the costs and resources required, and they can assist you in developing the best strategy to keep things moving during your development time. Furthermore, if you need to scale back or your development is seasonal or temporary, you can quickly downgrade.

Insights

Reporting is useful for more than just viewing what your teams are working on. All data delivered back and forth from your cloud provider to your computers can be stored, analyzed, and mined. This approach to data mining isn't new, but some AI technologies are used to make the data more useful and they are getting more innovative all the time.

Increased Collaboration

Since the very first tools for offsite teams to share data were developed, the cloud has been designed with collaboration in consideration. As more operations are migrating to the cloud, your staff will have new and improved methods to cooperate, whether they are in the same office or communicating across the globe. This enables real-time connections from any location and at any time.

Disaster Recovery

Most cloud providers have implemented numerous alternatives to ensure that you have a duplicate of what you need in case of an emergency. Therefore even if you lose power in the middle of your work, you can recover the information. Even if you want to preserve your own backups, cloud computing services offer extra assurances and may assist you in being compliant in your business.

Automatic Software Updates

If you consider the number of times you have postponed the system updates in the Operating System since you thought they are not necessary and not convenient. But they are required for efficiency and security.

Cloud-based services update and maintain their tools for your use automatically, sometimes with little or no disruption to your everyday operation. Because updates are performed throughout the whole system at once, a single instance will not risk your infrastructure.

Advantage of Competition

Even though more than 90% of businesses employ some form of cloud computing, most have yet to make the transition to using it for a growing number of their specific needs. The businesses that have adopted this technology can have a major advantage in terms of access to better technology and enhanced workflow.

On the other hand, the money and time saved can be used to invest in other projects such as research and development, marketing, or staffing. In a crowded market, this may be all you need to overtake your main opponent.

Sustainability

Using a private server also costs you energy. Well, you can avoid this cost and save energy as cloud computing support conserving energy. You may cut transportation-related pollution and the number of physical products you consume on a daily basis by enabling remote teams.

Quality Control

Your initial thought may be to consider the disadvantages of cloud computing services and how they may provide limited control. But actually, they can provide you the opportunity to monitor your data and who uses it. Individual permissions may be filtered in the cloud, and reporting tools are available to protect confidentiality.
